Last night S and I watched Pina in 3D at the local megaplex. An outstanding homage to an avant garde dance icon I knew nothing about.

Print Story Back to Mexico City
Travel
By LoppEar (Tue Mar 22, 2011 at 08:06:12 PM EST) (all tags)
We're back in Mexico City for a week, flew in Friday night on an entirely calm and 30 minutes early flight - back on United since Mexicana folded in the year since our last trip. This time we're spending the whole week in the city, no long bus trips anywhere else, so lots of time to unpack and relax in one place. In the past we've usually stayed in the Condesa neighborhood but this time we're closer to the heart of things in Zona Rosa a few blocks from the main road Paseo de la Reforma with the Bosque de Chapultepec in one direction and the Zocalo and Cathedral in the other.

Print Story It's been that long
Diary
By LoppEar (Fri Mar 11, 2011 at 01:56:06 PM EST) five years, wedding, travel, something about a cow (all tags)
Fittingly it's been basically five years since I last posted a diary here - I see I wrote one in 2007 during my summer between jobs. I'm glad for the meme, as back in January I thought a big update would be worth writing but I'm still more procrastinator than not. It's Friday and I'm happy.

Being unemployed... rocks. Rocks a lot. Being unemployed in the summer, with a multitude of offers coming my way and getting to say "nice, too bad I'm rocking an indeterminate vacation"... rocks!

I've been happy for a long time.

On the off chance anyone else is going to this, a 3-day pass has apparently been acquired for me so I'll be there too.

For anyone else, any bands you recommend I particularily avoid wandering off during?

Print Story Goodbye Pumpkin
Furries
By LoppEar (Tue Feb 07, 2006 at 06:28:05 AM EST) (all tags)
My cat, Pumpkin, died yesterday back home in Washington. 15 great years, he loved outdoors as much as indoors. Found as a kitten on the side of the highway by a family friend, we inherited him a year later. I remember talking to him in the box as we drove home, and I remember sleeping with him on my feet - but he wouldn't stay long, out into the woods. He knew how to sunbathe, slowly rolling in the dust or relaxing stretched out along the porch railing. He'd lounge way up in the trees, and ruled the land.

Print Story Ask Husi: Laptops
Gadgets
By LoppEar (Thu Oct 13, 2005 at 08:35:30 AM EST) (all tags)
Ok, so the new (old) job is pretty good, and I'm loving living downtown despite
not having much to point to as proof of my enjoyment. Life changes - I'm up by
6:30 pretty consistently instead of 9:00, and now have an hour and a half
commute each way.

Luckily, I spend almost all of that on the train, reading or sleeping. So I've
started considering a laptop again for writing, coding, and reading while
commuting.

Considerations so far: Sony Picturebook (C1M series), Dell X1, IBM X30/40, more.

By LoppEar (Fri Sep 02, 2005 at 12:34:47 PM EST) (all tags)
This will be short, as I have much more to do, but I'm almost ready to

MOVE

Boxes everywhere, a packed car load off to St. Vincent's, a dozen errands for insurance and checks and dinnerware. All done. Put it in the car, the other car, the friend's car, and we're out of here.

Still waiting to hear from our friend from New Orleans. Prayers to all of you dealing with that.
